Messianic Musicians Come Together to Record Song to Raise Funds for Repeated Droughts in Israel

resizedimg247829-jpg

Murca – Nearly every recording artist in the Messianic movement has come together, in the style of live aid, to record a song to raise funds for the repeated droughts in Israel. In America, we pray for rain to stop, but in Israel they pray for it to start; perspective. The song “It Shall Rain Over All the Earth” was recorded over the course of two months and is expected to be released between Sukkot and Passover, when God causes the wind to blow and the rain to fall.

The cavalcade of Messianic stars includes the following artists: Corry Bell, Ted Pearce, Joel Chernoff, Paul Wilbur, Marty Goetz, Jamie H. of MIQEDEM, Shai Sol, Deborah Kline-Iatorno, Jeremiah & Hannah Zaretsky, Alumni from ‘Yeladim for Yeshua’ and ‘You Gotta Jump,’ former members of The Liberated Wailing Wall, former members of Blue Mosaic, The Havdalah Spice Girls (Beckah Shae, Sharon Wilbur, Misha Goetz, Elisha Chernoff, and Rebecca Rudolf), Nate Benjamin, Roman & Alaina, Jonathan Settel, Rabbi Jan Rosenberg, Matt Gliebe and Kimi Moore Padrick (NAVI), Isaac Faraco (How to Fly), Joshua Aaron, Dr Greg Silverman, Eric & Joanne Kragenbrink, Judah & Jennifer Morrison, Barry & Batya Segal, Kaily Teeter, and Margaret Alexander. There will also be a special rap verse by Hazakim, Jeremiah Kaufman, and Aviad Cohen.

The new single will be available on iTunes, mjaa.org, umjc.org, jewsforjesus.org, and jewishvoice.org for $10 and 100% of proceeds will go towards helping make it rain in Israel. The group calls themselves “It’s Raining Mensches” and hopes to be able to perform together at AMF 2.0.

Special Congregational Worship Night Turns Into Two Straight Hours of the Song “Good Good Father”

Unknown

Brooklyn, NY – A special congregational worship night at Beth Tikvah Messianic Congregation turned into an endless loop of “Good Good Father” after The Spirit moved the worship leaders around and around in a circle until they couldn’t spin anymore. Unsuspecting attending congregants kept waiting for the song to change and it never did.

“We’ve had this worship night planned for quite a while,” said worship leader, Sarah Levy. “Honestly, I had never even heard the song ‘Good Good Father’ before, and then my friend, Danielle Tokajer, told me her husband, Rabbi David Tokajer, sings the song in the shower every single day and that inspired me to listen to it. The song was just so magical. I got caught up in it and just couldn’t stop playing it. This song is really a blessing to everyone that hears it. I also know Joshua Aaron is working on a Hebrew translation and we can’t wait to be able to start using “Tov Tov Abba” as a tool to worship The Lord in addition to the English version.”

Levy says they plan on having these special worship nights periodically, especially with the release of her upcoming album “Good Good Album” which is due out sometime this fall. Baruch HaShem Messianic Synagogue to Roll Out New Pumpkin Spice Communion Wafers

images

Dallas, TX – It was announced this week that Baruch HaShem Messianic Synagogue in Dallas would be producing new pumpkin spice flavored communion wafers, just in time for the fall season. The new wafers don’t pair particularly well with grape juice, but they do pair well with current trends in the first world.

“We want to make sure we are keeping up with nationwide trends so that we can stay relevant,” said Rabbi Ari Waldman of Baruch HaShem. Waldman, who is currently pulling double duty as the South Central Messianic Chief Innovator of Relevance, as well as the head coach of The Dallas Brisket, said the idea came to him in a pumpkin spice latte induced dream late last year. “We don’t actually have fall weather here in Dallas, but we like to pretend that we do. The best way to do that is to just binge on pumpkin spice everything. Something about doing that just makes the air feel a little more crisp than the 75º that it normally is.”

The new communion wafers will be produced and distributed in conjunction with the Gateway Church Jewish Ministry and will be available starting Monday, August 29th via both Gateway Church and the Baruch HaShem Messianic Synagogue Judaica Shop. The wafers will be available both online and in person and can be purchased in bulk by any church or synagogue wanting to spice up their communion service. Literally.

Beckah Shae, Sharon Wilbur, Misha Goetz, Elisha Chernoff, and Rebecca Rudolf to Form First Ever All Female Messianic Pop Super Group “The Havdalah Spice Girls”

spicegirls

Nashville, TN – It was announced this week that five of the leading female vocalists in Messianic Judaism would be joining together to form a new all female pop super group called “The Havdalah Spice Girls.” Beckah Shae, Sharon Wilbur, Misha Goetz, Elisha Chernoff, and Rebecca Rudolf have each seen individual success in their own way, but collectively decided they would be able to make a bigger statement by combining forces.

“The Messianic Music scene is very male dominated,” stated Chernoff. “We want to change that.  My Dad [Joel Chernoff] helped pave the way for Messianic music and Sharon [Wilbur, née Chernoff] and I were very blessed to grow up around that. Now we want to continue paving that way for women in the movement. We’ve had a lot of fun working together and have even given each other new nicknames: Beckah is Mama Spice, Sharon is Famous Spice, Misha is Shy Spice, Rebecca is Dancer Spice, and I’m Cute-as-a-button Spice!”

The Havdalah Spice Girls will incorporate singing, dancing choreogaphed by Rudolf, and lots of fashion tips for adoring fans. They are scheduled to perform at Messiah ’17 and AMF 2.0. Their first album “Besamim” will be available on iTunes later this year. You can also catch Misha in her Broadway debut this fall in the new musical “They Tried to Kill Us, We Won, Let’s Eat.”

Worship Band Accidentally Mistakes Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Boxer” for Old Liberated Wailing Wall Tune

worshipband

Irvine, CA – The worship band at Shuvah Yisrael played “The Boxer” by Simon and Garfunkel last Shabbat. The song was played immediately after a classic Paul Wilbur song and brought the worship session to a screeching halt; what would normally be a sweet time to connect with The Lord was met with boos and a cacophony of angry shofar blowing by crestfallen congregants.

When asked why she chose this song, 23 year old worship leader, Kaily Teeter, said, “I honestly thought it was a Liberated Wailing Wall song from the 70s! The folkiness of the song and the lai lai lais—-what else could it possibly be? My boyfriend, Mark, and I are making an album where we bring life into old worship songs and I was just trying to get in touch with our ancestors that played on The Wall to help us prepare for recording the album. Normally my song choices are really well received, but I never even imagined a song with lai lai lai in it would be a secular song by Simon and…who?”

Some say it was an ill timed publicity stunt to help raise funds for Kaily’s upcoming album (www.indiegogo.com/projects/mark-and-kaily-are-making-an-album-music-help#/), while others just blame millennials for anything they possibly can. Nevertheless, Rabbi Larry Feldman said he would have counselors readily available to be a bridge over troubled water for anyone traumatized by this incident.

AMF Announces Second Coming

AMF

Asheville, NC – What was meant to be a one time only Messianic Jewish Music and Arts Festival, AMF or Asheville Music Festival, has dropped a huge yarn bomb on everyone and finally announced there will be a second edition after all. The four day non partisan festival took place in Asheville, North Carolina in August 2012 and saw more than 1,000 members of the Messianic community from all over the world, including representation from every major Messianic organization in the movement.

“Our original vision for AMF was to hold a one time music and arts festival that would bring together MJAA, UMJC, and JFJ alike for a common interest,” says a planner for AMF who chose to remain anonymous. “We didn’t think we needed to have it more than once because the goal was for everyone to want to continue hanging out with each other after AMF ended, regardless of their organizational affiliation, and that’s essentially what happened. While there isn’t a NEED for this to be an annual or even bi-annual event, the demand is high, so we’ve decided to listen to the people and put this amazing festival on once again. Give the people what they want! Besides, there are so many great new Messianic Artists that have come up since then that didn’t get to perform at the first AMF, like MIQEDEM and How To Fly. We would love to showcase those artists at the next AMF.”

“The theme of the first AMF was ‘Noah’s Ark,’ but that was a little too wet for everyone, so we’ve decided that the next one will officially be called ‘AMF 2.0: 40 Years in the Desert.’ We’re currently looking for a new location with a drier climate than Asheville,” says another AMF planner who also chose to remain anonymous.

AMF 2.0 will happen sometime in the future, but of that day and hour no one knows, not even the biggest supporters, but only the organizers.
